A fabric having a camouflage appearance in the near infrared (NIR) spectrum with a substantially single color ap-pearance in the visible (VIS) spectrum is provided. The novel fabric may include at least two synthetic polymer multifilament yarns. The multifilament yarns are selected from 3 types of multifilament yarns: multifilaments comprising carbon black, multifilaments comprising pigments which modify the NIR reflectance characteristics of the multifilaments, and multifilaments substantially free of additives capable of modifying the NIR reflectance characteristics of the multifilaments. The fabric is dyed to a substantially single color appearance in the visible spectrum. In general, the fabric has a NIR spectrum comprising two reflectance curves having about 10% to about 85% reflectance separated by about 5% reflectance in a range of wavelengths from about 700 to about 860 nanometers (nm). The fabric may be used to manufacture garments, equipment, tents and tarpaulins that exhibit a camouflage appearance in NIR reflectance observed using night vision devices. At the same time, these garments, equipment, tents and tarpaulins have a single color and substantially non-camouflage in the VIS reflectance spectrum.
La présente invention concerne un tissu donnant un effet de camouflage dans le proche infrarouge (NIR) et un aspect sensiblement monochrome dans le spectre visible (VIS). Ce nouveau tissu est fait d'au moins deux fils multifilaments en polymère synthétique. Les fils multifilaments sont choisi parmi 3 types, multifilaments au noir de carbone, multifilaments à pigmentation modifiant leurs caractéristiques de réflectance dans le proche infrarouge, et multifilaments sensiblement exempts d'additifs capables d'en modifier les caractéristiques de réflectance dans le proche infrarouge. La teinture donne au tissu un aspect sensiblement monochrome dans le spectre visible. En général, au proche infrarouge, le tissu présente un spectre à deux courbes de réflectance: environ 10 % à environ 85 % de la réflectance est séparée d'environ 5 % de réflectance dans une plage de longueurs d'ondes allant d'environ 700 nm à environ 860 nm. Ce tissu convient à la confection de vêtements, d'équipements, de tentes et de bâches présentent un aspect de camouflage dans la réflectance du proche infrarouge observé par les appareils de vision nocturne. Simultanément, ces vêtements, équipements, tentes et bâches présentent un aspect monochrome et sensiblement non camouflage dans le spectre de réflectance à la lumière visible.
