The novel polymers of the present invention are prepared by reacting a hydroxy aromatic compound containing at least one -OH group in the ring, an aldehyde and amino-substituted polymer (e g., an ethylene alpha-olefin interpolymer substituted by primary amino or secondary amino groups) to form an oil soluble Mannich base derivative useful as antioxidant dispersant viscosity modifier additive in oleaginous compositions such as lubricating oils and fuels. Preferred aromatic compounds are phenols such as 2,6 di-t-butyphenol or 2,6-dimethylphenol. Preferred amino-substituted interpolymers comprise amino-substituted ethylene propylene norbornene terpolymers.
Nouveaux polymères préparés en faisant réagir un composé hydroxy aromatique comportant au moins un groupe -OH dans son cycle, un aldéhyde et un polymère à substitution amino (p. ex. un interpolymère éthylène alpha-oléfine substitué par des groupes amino primaires ou secondaires) pour former un dérivé oléosoluble à base de Mannich servant d'additif antioxydant dispersant modificateur de viscosité pour compositions telles que les huiles de graissage et les carburants. Les composés aromatiques préférés sont des phénols tels que le 2,6-di-t-butylphénol ou le 2,6-diméthylphénol. Les interpolymères à substitution amino préférés comprennent des terpolymères à substitution amino d'éthylène, propylène, norbornène.
