Corrosion of both ferrous and non-ferrous metals, induced by a variety of corrosive aqueous-based environments, may be inhibited or controlled through use of corrosion inhibiting compositions comprising at least one member of certain formula-specified categories of mercaptan-based compounds. Where the compounds are appropriately selected, and particularly at low inhibitor concentrations, the compositions may inhibit corrosion to a degree that is comparable to or significantly greater than the inhibition provided by an equal amount of certain other corrosion inhibitor compounds.

La corrosion de métaux ferreux et non-ferreux, provoquée par divers environnements corrosifs à base aqueuse, peut être inhibée ou contrôlée à l'aide de compositions inhibant la corrosion, contenant au moins un élément de certaines catégories spécifiées par formule de composés à base de mercaptans. Lorsque les composés sont choisis de façon appropriée, et notamment à de faibles concentrations d'inhibiteurs, les compositions peuvent inhiber la corrosion à un degré comparable ou nettement supérieur au degré d'inhibition de corrosion obtenu avec une quantité égale de certains autres composés inhibiteurs de corrosion.
