The invention provides a composition comprising core-shell nanoparticles, the nanoparticles comprising (a) cationic core material comprising polymer; and (b) a shell material comprising silica. Preferred core materials comprise diblock copolymer micelles comprising one block of dialkylaminoethyl methacrylate units which are partially or fully quaternised and one block of dialkylaminoethyl methacrylate units that remain non- quaternised. The invention also provides a method for the preparation of the said composition, the method involving (a) preparing a cationic core material comprising polymer; and (b) coating the core material with a shell comprising silica by treating the polymer with a silica precursor under ambient conditions. The invention also envisages a composition comprising core-shell nanoparticles which is adapted to facilitate controlled delivery of at least one active agent into a system in response to controlled changes in the pH of the system.

L'invention concerne une composition comprenant des nanoparticules à noyau - enveloppe, ces nanoparticules comprenant (a) un matériau de noyau cationique comprenant un polymère, et (b) un matériau d'enveloppe comprenant de la silice. Des matériaux de noyau préférés comprennent des micelles copolymères dibloc comprenant un bloc d'unités de métacrylate dialkylaminoéthyle qui sont partiellement ou complètement quaternisées et un bloc d'unités de métacrylate dialkylaminoéthyle qui restent non quaternisées. Cette invention concerne aussi un procédé de préparation de cette composition, ce procédé consiste (a) à préparer un matériau de noyau cationique comprenant un polymère, et (b) à revêtir ce matériau de noyau avec une enveloppe comprenant de la silice par traitement du polymère avec un précurseur de silice dans des conditions ambiantes. Cette invention concerne aussi une composition comprenant des nanoparticules à noyau - enveloppe qui est conçue pour faciliter l'apport contrôlé d'au moins un agent actif dans un système en réponse à des modifications contrôlées dans le pH de ce système.
