A novel polypeptide having a .beta.1, 3-galactose transferase activity participating in the synthesis of type 1 sugar chains; a DNA encoding this polypeptide; a recombinant vector containing this DNA; a transformant having this recombinant vector; a process for producing a sugar chain-complex carbohydrate containing the above polypeptide or a type 1 sugar chain by using the above polypeptide or the above transformant; an antibody recognizing the polypeptide; a method for detecting and quantitating the polypeptide by using this antibody; a method for screening a substance relating to the polypeptide; a method for diagnosing and treating digestive cancer by using the DNA or the antibody; and a method for treating digestive cancer by using a substance obtained by the above screening method.
L'invention concerne un nouveau polypeptide possédant une activité de .beta.1, 3-galactose transférase participant à la synthèse des chaînes du sucre de type 1, un ADN codant ce polypeptide, un vecteur recombiné contenant cet ADN, un transformant comprenant ce vecteur recombiné, ainsi qu'un procédé de production d'un hydrate de carbone à chaîne sucre complexe, contenant le polypeptide ci-dessus ou une chaîne sucre de type 1, ce procédé consistant à utiliser le polypeptide ou le transformant ci-dessus. L'invention concerne encore un anticorps reconnaissant le polypeptide, un procédé de détection et de quantification du polypeptide à l'aide de cet anticorps, un procédé de criblage d'une substance se rapportant à ce polypeptide, une méthode de diagnostic et de traitement du cancer digestif consistant à utiliser l'ADN ou l'anticorps, ainsi qu'une méthode de traitement d'un tel cancer à l'aide d'une substance obtenue au moyen du procédé de criblage ci-dessus.
