Compounds of formula (I) in which R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 are hydrogen atoms or chromogenic substituents and X is hydroxyl, OR6 wherein R6 is selected from the group consisting of C1-C4 alkyl, or O-Me+ wherein Me+ is a cation derived from an organic or inorganic base; these compounds do not exhibit significant fluorescence but are capable of being cleaved by phosphatidyl- inositol-specific phospholipase C, an enzyme which is indicative of bacterial activity; the umbelliferyl moity resulting from such cleavage is a strong fluorogen thus providing effective test methods for various pathogenic bacteria, such as Listeria, Staphylococcus and Clostridium species. A synthesis method is disclosed. A preferred species of formula (I) compounds is 4-methylumbelliferyl myo-inositol-1-phosphate and the salts thereof with an organic or inorganic base.

L'invention concerne des composés représentés par la formule (I), dans laquelle R<1>, R<2>, R<3>, R<4> et R<5> représentent des atomes d'hydrogène ou des substituants chromogènes et X représente hydroxyle, OR<6>, où R<6> est choisi dans le groupe comprenant alkyle C1-C4, ou O<->Me<+>, où Me<+> représente un cation dérivé d'une base organique ou inorganique. Ces composés ne présentent pas de fluorescence importante mais peuvent être clivés à l'aide de la phospholipase C spécifique du phosphatidyl inositol, une enzyme qui indique l'activité bactérienne. La fraction ombelliféryle résultant de ce clivage est un fluorophore puissant, ce qui permet d'obtenir des méthodes de test efficaces pour différentes bactéries pathogènes, telles que les espèces Listeria, Staphylococcus et Clostridium. L'invention concerne également une méthode de synthèse. Une espèce préférée des composés représentés par la formule (I) est constituée par le myo-inositol-1-phosphate de 4-méthylombelliféryle.
