ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Novel thiazolidinedione compounds of the formula (I) Image (I) wherein R is optionally substituted aromatic hydrocarbon, optionally substituted alicyclic hydrocarbon or optionally substituted aromatic heterocyclic group, R1 and R2 are each independently hydrogen atom, lower alkyl, or aromatic hydrocarbon or aromatic heterocyclic group which may be substituted by lower alkyl, acyl, lower alkoxy, cyano, nitro, lower alkoxycarbonyl or sulfonyl, R3 is hydrogen atom, hydroxy, lower alkyl, acyl, lower alkoxy, cyano, nitro, lower alkoxycarbonyl or sulfonyl, R4 is lower alkyl, X is oxygen atom, sulfur atom or secondary amino, A is -(CH2)m- where m is an integer of 0, 1 or 2, and B is -(CH2)n- where n is an integer of 0, 1 or 2; pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof; and pharmaceutical compositions thereof. The novel thiazolidine- dione compounds of the present invention have superior hypoglycemic and hypolipemic actions and are very useful as a therapeutic agent for diabetes, an agent for the prevention and treatment of the complications thereof and as a therapeutic agent for hyperlipemia. 1 1 3
