The present invention relates to the use of 3'-(L-ascorbyl-2-o-phosphoryl)- cholesterol, 3'-(L-ascorbyl-3-o-phosphoryl)-cholesterol, and their derivatives ("APC compounds"). More specifically, the present invention relates to use of APC compounds to improve the appearance and health of skin, hair, lips and nails. The present invention also relates to methods of topically administering APC compounds to cleanse skin and remove make-up, moisturize skin, enhance the shine and wear of nail coating compositions, and to improve compositions having pigments and/or iron oxides. Additional novel uses of APC compounds provided by the present invention include a method of reducing epidermal synthesis of abnormal elastin, especially epidermal synthesis of abnormal elastin that results from exposure to UV radiation. Also disclosed are novel methods of stimulating keratinocyte formation of triglycerides and achieving antioxidant activity in the skin by topically applying APC compounds.

Cette invention, qui concerne l'utilisation de 3'-(L-ascorbyl-2-o-phosphoryl)-cholestérol, de 3'-(L-ascorbyl-3-o-phosphoryl)-cholestérol et de leurs dérivés (baptisés ci-après "composés APC"), porte, notamment, sur l'utilisation de ces composés APC dans le but d'améliorer l'aspect et la santé de la peau, des cheveux, des lèvres et des ongles. L'invention se rapporte également à des procédés permettant l'administration topique des composés APC dans le but de nettoyer la peau et d'enlever le maquillage, d'humidifier la peau, de renforcer l'éclat et la résistance à l'usure des compositions de vernis à ongles et d'améliorer les compositions renfermant des pigments et/ou des oxydes de fer. L'invention concerne de nouvelles utilisations des composés APC, entre autres un procédé permettant de réduire la synthèse épidermique de l'élastine anormale, en particulier la synthèse épidermique de l'élastine anormale résultant d'une exposition aux rayons UV. L'invention se rapporte enfin à de nouveaux procédés permettant de favoriser la formation de triglycérides par les kératinocytes et d'exercer une activité antioxydante sur la peau grâce à l'application topique des composés APC précités.
