Compositions and methods are provided for the use of IL-4 and/or IL-10, or antibodies against IL-4 and IL-10, for the treatment of a number of diseases. In one embodiment, IL-10 is used to inhibit IL-2 production by neoplastic lymphocytes, or IL-2-dependent neoplastic cell proliferation. In another embodiment. IL-10 is used to treat inflammatory bowel disease. 1n still another embodiment, antibodies against IL-4 and IL-10 are used to increase levels of IFN-.gamma.. In still another embodiment, a combination of IL-4 and IL-10 is used to potentiate IL-10-mediated inhibition of cytokine production by T cells. In still another embodiment IL-10, alone or in combination with IL-4, is used to inhibit delayed type hypersensitivity reactions. This invention further provides pharmaceutical compositions comprising a physiologically acceptable carrier and a combination of IL-4 and IL-10, or a combination of antibodies against IL-4 and IL-10.
Compositions et procédés permettant d'utiliser l'interleukine-4 (IL-4) et/ou l'interleukine-10 (IL-10) ou des anticorps dirigés contre ces dernières pour le traitement d'un certain nombre de maladies. Selon un mode de réalisation, l'IL-10 est utilisée pour inhiber la production d'IL-2 par des lymphocytes néoplasiques ou la prolifération des cellules néoplastiques indépendantes d'IL-2. Selon un autre mode de réalisation, l'IL-10 est utilisée pour traiter les affections intestinales inflammatoires. Selon un troisième mode de réalisation, des anticorps dirigés contre l'IL-4 et l'IL-10 sont utilisés pour augmenter les niveaux de gamme-interféron (IFN-gamma). Selon une autre variante, une combinasion d'IL-4 et d'IL-10 est utilisée pour potentialiser l'inhibition induite par IL-10 d'une production de cytokines par les lymphocytes T. Selon encore une autre variante, l'IL-10 est utilisée, seule ou en combinaison avec l'IL-4, pour inhiber des réactions hypersensibles du type à retard. L'invention se rapporte en outre à des compositions pharmaceutiques comprenant un excipient physiologiquement acceptable et une combinaison d'IL-4 et d'IL-10, ou une combinaison d'anticorps dirigés contre ces dernières.
