ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A nozzle type coater for application of a coating mixture on a running paper web. A nozzle space extends across the entire web width, and is defined on the entrance side of the web by an overflow slat and on the exit side of the web by a dosing slat. A distribution pipe distributes the coating mixture across the web width, and a feed channel feeds coating mixture from the distribution pipe at surplus to the nozzle space. A drain chan- nel is provided for surplus coating removal from the nozzle space. The feed channel empties on that side of the coater where the paper web enters. The drain channel is connected to an overflow chute, which at the same time collects the overflow from the overflow slat. A compensation device extends across the entire web width and comprises a fixed yoke, a sleeve surrounding it and adjustable toward the paper web, and adjustable pressure transfer elements. A flow element is provided, around which flows the coating mixture. Viewed in side elevation and in the web running direction, the elements distribution pipe, flow element and compensation device are successively arranged.
