A method of detecting a target nucleotide sequence in a nucleic acid molecule, which comprises: (a) binding of an oligonucleotide probe to said nucleic acid molecule; (b) selective labelling of the bound oligonucleotide probe in the presence of said target nucleotide sequence; (c) hybridisation of the labelled oligonucleotide to a complementary sequence; and (d) subsequent detection of the label; such methods being suitable for qualitative and quantitative assays of microbiological populations.

La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant de détecter une séquence de nucléotides cible dans une molécule d'acide nucléique. Ce procédé comporte plusieurs opérations, et notamment: (a) Liaison d'une sonde oligonucléotide à la molécule d'acide nucléique considérée; (b) marquage sélectif de la sonde oligonucléotide liée en présence de la séquence nucléotide cible considérée; (c) hybridation de l'oligonucléotide marqué à une séquence complémentaire; (d) et enfin, détection consécutive de l'étiquette. Un tel procédé convient pour des essais qualitatifs et quantitatifs portant sur des populations microbiologiques.
