-0- NUCLEIC ACID DETECTION METHOD USING UNEQUAL PRIMER CONCENTRATIONS IN POLYMERASE CHAIN REACTION Abstract of the Disclosure The detection of nucleic acids can be achieved with certain advantages in polymerase chain reactions by using primers in unequal concentra- tions. In particular, the molar ratio of a pair of primers is at least 2:1. Amplification of the nucleic acid of interest is carried out using standard reagents, but denaturation of the comple- mentary products prior to detection is not needed. Detection is then accomplished using an enzyme- labeled reagent which will provide a colorimetric or fluorometric signal in the presence of the appro- priate substrate.
