The invention provides a method for characterising a sample comprising nucleic acid derived from a cell. The method comprises determining whether a sample comprises at least a minimal sequence of at least one new microRNA (miRNA) according to the invention or a mammalian ortholog thereof and characterizing the sample on the basis of the presence or absence of the miRNA. The invention further provides nucleic acid molecules and collections thereof and their use in therapeutic and diagnostic applications. The invention furthermore provides a method for identifying a miRNA molecule or a precursor molecule thereof.

L'invention concerne un procédé de caractérisation d'un échantillon comprenant un acide nucléique dérivé d'une cellule. Le procédé consiste à déterminer si un échantillon comprend au moins une séquence minimale d'au moins un nouveau micro-ARN (miARN) selon l'invention ou un de ses orthologues de mammifère et à caractériser l'échantillon sur la base de la présence ou de l'absence du miARN. L'invention concerne en outre de nouvelles molécules d'acides nucléiques et leurs collections et leur utilisation dans des applications thérapeutiques et diagnostiques. L'invention concerne en outre un procédé d'identification d'une molécule de miARN ou d'une de ses molécules précurseurs.
