A human P2X2 purinergic receptor polypeptide is provided. Nucleic acid molecules encoding the human P2X2 receptor polypeptide, and vectors and host cells containing such nucleic acid molecules, are also provided. In addition, methods are provided for producing the P2X2 receptor polypeptide, as are methods of using such polypeptides and host cells that express the same to screen for compounds having activity on P2X2 receptor. Further, therapeutic uses involving aspects of this receptor are contemplated.
