Short nucleotide sequences of hepatitis B virus useful for the determination of the presence and type of hepatitis B virus present in a test sample. The sequences provided can be amplified by various DNA hybridization techniques including a modified polymerase chain reaction or ligase chain reaction. The sequences provided also can be hybridized by standard dot- or replica-blot procedures. Methods and kits also are provided for the detection of hepatitis B virus in the test sample and the determination of the type of hepatitis B virus present in the test sample.

L'invention concerne de courtes séquences de nucléotides du virus de l'hépatite B qui permettent de déterminer la présence et le type d'un virus de l'hépatite B dans un échantillon d'essai. Ces séquences peuvent être amplifiées par diverses techniques d'hybridation de l'ADN, notamment par LCR ou PCR modifiée. Elles peuvent aussi être hybridées par des procédures courantes d'analyse ou de réplique des taches. Des méthodes et des trousses permettant de détecter le virus de l'hépatite B dans un échantillon d'essai et d'en déterminer le type sont également proposées.
