The invention relates to a novel nutrient medium which has been developed for yeast culture and in particular for the selective isolation, differentiation and simultaneous identification of yeasts, particularly species of the Candida genus of clinical or environmental interest. The invention is essentially based on the use of a combination of sweet potato extract and yeast or tomato extract in order to promote the growth of different fungal species. According to the invention, the nutrient medium is provided with specific fluorogenic and/or chromogenic substrates in order to detect the enzymatic activity of the phospholipases, aminopeptidases, hexosaminidases and glucosidases, as well as substances containing proteins in order to detect proteolytic activity present in species of the Candida genus. In addition, the medium also contains sources of carbon, salts, buffering agents, bacteria inhibitors and agar. The nutrient medium can be used to differentiate between species of Candida with the aid of the colour of the colonies, the emission of fluorescence under ultraviolet light, the formation of halos and the morphology of the colonies.

L'invention concerne un nouveau milieu nutritif pour la culture de levures, de manière spécifique pour l'isolation sélective, la différenciation et l'identification simultanée de levures, en particulier d'espèces du genre Candida d'intérêt clinique ou environnemental. L'invention est principalement fondée sur l'utilisation d'une combinaison d'extrait de patate douce et d'extrait de levure ou de tomate pour favoriser la croissance de différentes espèces fongiques. Des substrats chromogènes et/ou fluorogènes spécifiques sont incorporés audit milieu nutritif afin de détecter l'activité enzymatique des phospholipases, aminopeptidases, hexosaminidases et glucosidases. Des substances qui contiennent des protéines sont également incorporées au mileu nutritif afin de détecter l'activité protéolytique présente dans des espèces du genre Candida. Ledit milieu contient également des sources de carbone, des sels, des agents tampons, des inhibiteurs des bactéries et de l'agar-agar. Le milieu nutritif de l'invention permet de différencier des espèces de Candida par la coloration des colonies, l'émission de fluorescence sous lumière ultraviolette, la formation de halos et la morphologie des colonies.
