A B S T R A C T A self-locking nut has a nut body made of plastic material in which a first bore portion is receiving the threaded shank of a cooperating bolt, the first bore portion is terminating at a second bore portion which extends coaxially from the termination of the first bore portion to an axial end of the nut body. The second bore portion which may be unthreaded has a diameter which is smaller than the diameter of the first bore portion. The nut body has an outer reduced diameter end portion radially opposite the second bore portion and extending on the same axial length as the latter. The nut further comprises a band, formed of a metal material having a tensile strength greater than that of the material of the nut body, surrounding the outer reduced diameter end portion of the nut body, to form a reinforcement for the second bore portion of the nut body, to form a reinforcement for the second bore portion of the axial bore during threading of a shank end of the bolt into the second portion of the bore.
