The invention relates to sterile pharmaceutical compositions for parenteral administration which comprise an oil-in-water emulsion in which a free radical scavenging sedative agent dissolved in an omega-3 rich water-immiscible solvent, is emulsified with water and stabilised by means of a surfactant, the composition being suitable either directly or after dilution with a liquid diluent for parenteral administration to a warm-blooded animal; in particular to such compositions comprising propofol, and which optionally further comprise a metal ion chelating agent (such as edetate), and the use of such compositions in improving survival in critically ill patients.
Cette invention se rapporte à des compositions pharmaceutiques stériles pour administration parentérale, qui comprennent une émulsion huile dans l'eau, dans laquelle un agent sédatif de piégeage de radicaux libres dissous dans un solvant immiscible dans l'eau riche en oméga 3 est émulsifié avec de l'eau et stabilisé au moyen d'un tensioactif, cette composition étant appropriée soit directement soit après dilution avec un diluant liquide pour une administration parentérale à un sujet animal à sang chaud; cette invention se rapportant en particulier à de telles compositions contenant du propofol et qui contiennent en outre éventuellement un agent de chélation à ions métalliques (par exemple édétate), ainsi qu'à l'utilisation de telles compositions pour améliorer la survie chez des patients en phase critique.
