ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION A retainer device is provided for holding objects within recesses provided on form liners which are attached to the inside surface of substantially upright concrete structural forms. The retainer device is attached in various ways to the form liner or form so as to hold the object against the liner so that after the concrete has been poured and set and the forms stripped, the objects will be exposed in the finished surface of the structure. Various retaining devices such as clips having enlarged circular or rectangular heads and elongated stems with friction enhancing devices such as knurled surfaces, enlarged bulbous portions or even a soft elastomeric coating are described. The clips are intended to be inserted or attached to the form liner so as to hold the clip in a tight relationship with respect to the object so as to provide a holding force on the object to prevent its dislodgement. Other embodiments of the retainer device can be provided such as a spring- biased clamp having a body encased within the form liner so that the clamp ends grip the sides of the object. Other retaining devices provide a flat retainer head which is held in position by an elongated bolt passing through the outer surface of the form and liner as well as a dome-shaped cap which is impaled upon a finishing nail or stud embedded in the form liner. In another embodiment, an elastic band is secured to the form liner ridge provided between recesses. The elastic band is held in the ridge so that a dowel or pin can pass through the elastic loop and contact the objects to provide the holding force. Another embodiment provides outwardly extending projections oppositely arranged on each side of the recess formed in the liner so that once the object is inserted, the projections will retain and hold the object in position. A still further embodiment is to provide a flexible elastomeric cuff or receptacle having a thin outer membrane which is no more than one-half of the grout area between the bricks provided in the finished surface whereby the elastomeric cuffs can be strategically attached to the surface of the form in order to provide the retaining device and the liner receptacle for holding the brick in position during the pouring process. Various enhancements of the retainer devices are provided for better securing the retainer devices to the form liner and for securing the objects in place.
