A head for an obstetric vacuum extractor has a convex distal part reconfigurable into a concave suction cup. For example, the head may comprise single-walled distal and proximal parts, wherein the distal part can be deformed to create a double-walled suction cup in cooperation with the proximal part. Thus the head may be inserted into the mother's vagina, the head having a convex distal part upon insertion, whereupon the convex distal part is reconfigured into a concave suction cup for engagement with the baby's head, suction is applied to the cup to attach the cup to the baby's head, and force is applied to the baby's head via the cup to aid delivery.
Selon l'invention, la tête d'une ventouse obstétrique présente une partie distale convexe que l'on peut reconfigurer en ventouse concave. Par exemple, la tête peut comprendre des parties distale et proximale à paroi unique. La partie distale peut être déformée de façon à créer une ventouse à double paroi en coopération avec la partie proximale. La tête peut donc être introduite dans le vagin de la mère, ladite tête présentant une partie distale convexe au moment de l'introduction, la partie distale convexe est alors reconfigurée en ventouse concave pour venir en prise avec la tête du bébé. L'aspiration est appliquée à la ventouse de manière à fixer celle-ci à la tête du bébé, et une force est exercée sur la tête du bébé par le biais de la ventouse afin de faciliter l'accouchement.
