The invention provides for a method of detecting objects in an area, the method including obtaining one or more images of the area, using an edge detection technique in such a way as to highlight substantially dominant linear features in the image(s), and determining if any dominant linear features intersect linear features defining the area. The method may also include detecting parallax in at least two images, the parallax being produced by the presence of 3-dimensional objects in the area.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de détecter des objets dans une zone. Ce procédé consiste à obtenir une ou plusieurs images de la zone, à utiliser une technique de détection des bords de manière à mettre en relief les caractéristiques linéaires dominantes dans l'image ou les images et enfin à déterminer si ces caractéristiques linéaires dominantes recoupent des caractéristiques linéaires définissant la zone. Ce procédé consiste à détecter une parallaxe dans au moins deux images, cette parallaxe étant produite par la présente d'objets tridimensionnels dans la zone.
