Certaines peintures dites «couleurs transparentes à solvants» imitent le vitrail lorsqu'elles sont appliquées sur une surface translucide à l'intérieur des espaces déterminés par un cerne en relief (cerne-relief) . Cette technique de peinture nécessite l'application manuelle du cerne-relief. Dans le présent procédé le cerne-relief est produit par sérigraphie au moyen de l'impression sur la vitre ou panneau acrylique de plusieurs couches d'encre gonflable à la chaleur (encre «pof») et cette encre est ensuite collée et solidifiée par l'application d'un vernis qui sert en tant que liant et durcisseur.
