epending on the year, between 82 and 85% of all fire-related deaths and injuries occur in the home, according to statistics provided by Fire Prevention Canada. The main solution available to individuals to put out an incipient fire in the home is the fire extinguisher, which has recognized advantages but also some drawbacks. During a fire it causes damage, runs out quickly, is not always handled correctly and necessitates thorough cleaning. Moreover, it needs to be recharged every 13 to 18 month, at additional expense. These are some of the elements that underlay our research leading to the creation of the OCCIFLAME, whose purpose is to nip a fire in the bud and eliminate the spread of flames by removing the oxygen supply. OCCIFLAME is a towel-sized sheet of cotton cloth, averaging 97 cm x 105 cm, that has been treated with fire-retardant salts. It is packed in a cardboard box with a precut opening so that it can be used within a few seconds. Ready for use and needing no upkeep, it is very easy to use, as one need only open the container, take one corner of the OCCIFLAME in each hand and throw it over the objects or materials that have caught fire. The OCCIFLAME is an innovative concept for the general public, is non-toxic and free of asbestos, causes no mess and requires no upkeep. It has successfully met the most stringent North American and European standards, and its verified life expectancy is the same as that of its fabric. People of all ages, from the oldest to the youngest, will find the OCCIFLAME more practical than a fire extinguisher, even though both are intended for the same purpose: to save human life and material goods
Suivant les années, de 82 à 85% des blessures ou des décès ayant trait au feu se produisent au domicile d'après les Statistiques en Prévention des Incendies. La principale alternative offerte aux particuliers d'éteindre un début d'incendie au domicile est l'extincteur qui a des qualités reconnues, mais aussi des inconvénients. Lors d'un incendie il fait des dégâts, se vide rapidement, n'est pas toujours manipulé adéquatement et provoque un gros nettoyage. Une vérification est nécessaire entre 13 et 18 mois et le recharger entraîne des coûts supplémentaires. Ces éléments ont justifiés nos recherches qui ont abouties à la création de l'OCCIFLAME, dont le but est d'éteindre un début d'incendie et d'arrêter la propagation des flammes en supprimant l'apport d'oxygéne. L'OCCIPLAME est une pièce de textile en coton type serviètte, de dimension moyenne de 97 cm X 105 cm, qui a été traité avec des sels ignifuges. Il est conditionné dans une boite en carton dont l'ouverture est pré-découpée, afin de pouvoir être utilisable en quelques secondes. Prêt à l'emploi, sans aucun entretien, il est très simple d'utilisation puisqu'il suffit d'ouvrir son contenant, de prendre dans chaque main un rebord de l'OCCIFLAME, et de le déposer sur les objets ou matériaux en feu. L'OCCIFLAME est un concept innovateur grand public, non toxique et sans amiante, propre lors d'un feu, sans aucun entretien. Il a passé avec succès les normes Nord-américaines et Européennes les plus sévères, et sa durée de vie testée, est équivalente à la durée de vie de son support.
