Certain embodiments include a punctum plug for blocking flow of lacrimal fluid in an eye, the plug having an introducible portion comprising a dehydrated material hydratable by physiological saline to swell from a first diameter to a second diameter that is at least 50% greater than the first diameter, wherein the portion is swellable by the lacrimal fluid to occlude the punctal opening to block the flow of the lacrimal fluid through the punctal opening, wherein the dehydratable material degrades in less than about seven days in the punctal opening of the patient. Certain embodiments include a device for occluding a nasolacrimal passage, the device comprising an introducible portion made with an anisotropically swellable material. Some embodiments are punctum plugs made with a polysaccharide in the group consisting of gellan, welan, S-88, S-198 and rhamsan gum.
Dans certains modes de réalisation, l'invention concerne un obturateur de point lacrymal permettant de bloquer l'écoulement du fluide lacrymal dans un oeil. Ledit obturateur comprend une partie d'introduction composée d'un matériau déshydraté pouvant être hydraté au moyen un fluide physiologique salin afin de passer par gonflement d'un premier diamètre à un second diamètre de 50 % supérieur au premier. La partie est gonflée au moyen du fluide lacrymal afin d'occlure l'ouverture du point lacrymal et de bloquer l'écoulement lacrymal à travers ladite ouverture. Le matériau pouvant être déshydraté se dégrade en moins de sept jours dans le l'ouverture du point lacrymal d'un patient. Dans d'autres modes de réalisation, l'invention concerne un dispositif destiné à occlure le passage nasolacrymal, ce dispositif comprenant une partie d'introduction formée d'un matériau gonflable anisotrope. Dans de derniers modes de réalisation, les obturateurs pour point lacrymal sont composés d'un polysaccharide provenant du groupe constitué par une gomme gellane, welane, S-88, S-198 et rhamsane.
