The invention relates to an occupant protection device for a vehicle with an inner part (10) which consists of a dimensionally stable support part (60) and a cover (62), said cover consisting preferably of a foamed intermediate layer (66) and a decorative layer (61) and being connected to said support part over a large area; and which is configured as an instrument panel. The occupant protection device has an airbag (16) which can be inflated by means of a gas generator (20), whereupon the airbag (16) penetrates a section (76) of the inner part (10) that thus open, entering the vehicle interior. L'invention concerne un dispositif de protection des occupants d'un véhicule, comprenant un élément intérieur (10) qui est réalisé notamment sous forme de tableau de bord et qui est constitué d'un élément support indéformable (60) et d'un couvercle (62) relié à l'élément support sur une grande surface et formé de préférence d'une couche intermédiaire expansée (66) et d'une couche décorative (64). Le dispositif de protection comporte également un sac à gaz (16) qui peut être gonflé au moyen d'un générateur de gaz (20), traversant alors une section d'ouverture (76) de l'élément intérieur (10) pour pénétrer dans l'espace intérieur du véhicule. Selon l'invention, le sac à gaz (16) est logé sous forme de paquet plié (14) entre l'élément support (60) et le couvercle (62).
