An ocular replacement system provides a ball-shaped implant body (20) having an outer spherical and porous surface (22) that is receptive to ingrowth of ocular tissue and including an anterior portion (24) positioned forwardly when the implant is fitted in the eye cavity (12) to create a convex tissue surface area when covered by conjunctiva (11). A prosthesis (30) includes an outer face and an opposite inner concave surface (36) shaped to conform generally to the convex tissue surface area. When fitted in the front orbital space of the eye cavity (12) and a magnetic attractive force between at least one magnet (46) on the inner surface of the prosthesis. One or more magnetically attractive elements (42) on the anterior portion of the implant couples the prosthesis (30) to the implant (20) so that the prosthesis (30) follows movement of the implant to simulate natural eye movement within the eye cavity (12). The magnets are offset relative to the attractive elements (42) to avoid direct alignment and excessive magnetic attraction, thereby reducing pressure which may cause tissue breakdown, infection, tissue dehiscence or implant extrusion.
L'invention concerne un système de remplacement oculaire fournit un corps (20) d'implant en forme de balle dont la surface (22) extérieure poreuse et sphérique reçoit une interposition du tissu oculaire et dont la partie (24) antérieure est placée vers l'avant lorsque l'implant est fixé à la cavité (12) de l'oeil de manière à générer une surface tissulaire convexe une fois recouverte de conjonctive (11). La prothèse (30) comprend une face extérieure et une surface (36) opposée intérieure concave dont la configuration est telle qu'elle épouse normalement la surface tissulaire convexe. Après sa fixation dans l'espace orbital avant de la cavité (12) oculaire, une force attractive magnétique exercée entre au moins un aimant (46) sur la surface intérieure de la prothèse et un ou plusieurs éléments (42) d'attraction par magnétisme sur la partie antérieure de l'implant accouple la prothèse (30) à l'implant (20) de sorte que la prothèse (30) suive le mouvement de l'implant de manière à simuler le mouvement de l'oeil naturel au sein de la cavité (12) de l'oeil. Les aimants sont décalés par rapport aux éléments (42) d'attraction de manière à éviter un alignement direct et un magnétisme excessif, réduisant ainsi la pression susceptible de provoquer une rupture du tissu, une infection, une déhiscence tissulaire ou une extrusion d'implant.
