The topical application to the ocular surface or adjacent regions of the eye of a preparation containing a therapeutic amount of an androgen or androgen analogue or a therapeutic amount of TGF-.beta. is disclosed as a method of relieving the chronic and acute manifestation of dry eye symptoms in Sjögren's syndrome. Measurements of the increased tear levels of TGF-.beta. is disclosed as a diagnostic test to monitor the therapeutic effect of of topical treatment with androgen or androgen analogues.
L'invention concerne l'application topique sur la surface de l'oeil ou sur les régions contiguës d'une préparation contenant une quantité à effet thérapeutique d'un androgène ou d'un analogue d'un androgène ou encore du facteur de croissance transformant bêta, pour atténuer les symptômes chroniques et aigus du type dessèchement de l'oeil dans le cas du syndrome de Sjögren. L'invention concerne la mesure de l'augmentation du niveau de facteur de croissance transformant bêta en tant que test diagnostic pour mesurer l'effet thérapeutique du traitement topique avec un androgène ou un analogue d'un androgène.
