An odor control system consisting of a cylindrical bio-scrubber (20) packed with means providing an extensive surface area over which licquid media is caused to cascade, an oxidation pond (22) containing selected microorganism in a fluid media, and means (25) for introducing gases to be treated into the bio-scrubber (20) while concurrently causing microbial-impregnated fluid from the oxidation pond (22) to flow through and into contact with effluent gases passing through the bio-scrubber (20), thereby to effect transport of gases to the oxidation pond (22) where volatile organic compounds are metabolically destroyed. When necessary to achieve optimum odor reduction a further element can be added to the overall combination in the form of a biofilter (30) through which gases emanating from the bio-scrubber (30) are passed before their release to the atmosphere.
Ce système de lutte contre les odeurs consiste en un bio-épurateur cylindrique (20) garni d'un moyen offrant une aire de surface étendue sur lequel on fait couler en cascade un milieu liquide, un bassin d'oxydation (22) contenant des micro-organismes sélectionnés contenus dans un milieu fluide, et en un milieu (25) d'introduction des gaz à traiter dans ce bio-épurateur (20), tandis qu'on fait simultanément passer le fluide imprégné de microbes, provenant du bassin d'oxydation (22), au travers et au contact d'effluents gazeux traversant ce bio-épurateur (22), ce qui permet d'amener ces gaz au bassin d'oxydation (22) où les composés organiques volatils sont réduits par voie métabolique. S'il convient de parvenir à une réduction optimum des odeurs, on peut ajouter à cet ensemble un autre élément prenant la forme d'un biofiltre (30) que traversent les gaz provenant du bio-épurateur (30) avant qu'ils ne soient libérés dans l'atmosphère.
