A toilet including an odor removal apparatus is disclosed. The toilet includes a toilet bowl having an inner volume, a drain and a siphon in communication with the inner volume and the drain. The toilet bowl and siphon are operable to temporarily store water therein between flushing cycles of the toilet. The odor removal apparatus includes a ventilating mechanism in communication with the inner volume and the drain. The ventilating mechanism is operable to suck air from the inner volume and to transfer the air to the drain. The ventilating mechanism and the water temporarily stored inside the toilet bowl and siphon together prevent the air transferred to the drain from reentering the inner volume. In another embodiment, the toilet bowl has one or more passages therein positioned to transfer water into the inner volume and the ventilating mechanism is in communication with the inner volume and the siphon. The ventilating mechanism is positioned to suck air from the inner volume via the one or more passages and to transfer the air to the water temporarily stored inside the siphon. The air rises through the water and into the drain, wherein the water prevents the air transferred to the drain from reentering the ventilating mechanism.
