An off-line programming method for producing data for controlling motion of a physical robot comprises the steps of: providing a plurality of teaching programs; displaying on a monitor a plurality of robot models each corresponding to a different physical robot, each of them being operated by a different one of those teaching programs respectively; designating one of the plurality of robot models displayed on the monitor using an input device; and initiating, as a result of the designating step, a teaching application corresponding to the robot model designated through the input device. Off-line programming apparatus for producing data for controlling motion of a physical robot comprises: a plurality of teaching programs; a monitor for displaying thereon a plurality of robot models each corresponding to a different physical robot, each of those robot models being operated by a different one of the teaching programs respectively; an input device for designating a robot model; and application-initiating means for initiating a teaching application corresponding to the robot model designated by that input device, thereby making it possible to perform teaching based on the designated robot model.
