An office chair base is the bottom part of every office chair securing its vertical stability and providing free movement in a horizontal plane perpendicular to the axis of the vertical support column. The movement in all existing office chair bases is effectuated by means of using casters. In this invention the casters are eliminated and replaced by balls located in grooves inside a ribbed injection molded base. The balls are kept into position by two wire rings with different diameters, which snap fit into a set of grooves in the injection molded base. The result is a smoother movement, since the loads are transmitted directly to the balls and a better load distribution to the underlying surface, since there are six balls compared to five castors for a standard office chair base.
