The invention is a coulter mount for supporting a coulter blade of conventional design. The coulter mount provides an axis of rotation for the blade lying in a substantially horizontal plane and a pivotal connection with a 2nd axis of rotation in a vertical plane laterally offset from the central plane of the coulter blade which axis intersects the horizontal plane at a point forward of the first axis in the direction of travel. The invention is a seeding method of coultering a slit in the soil having a width slightly greater than the width of the coulter blade and having 2 spaced-apart side walls generally disposed at a small angle to the vertical, forming a side wall furrow into 1 of the side walls entirely below the soil surface and depositing seed in the side wall furrow.
