-1- ABSTRACT AN OIL COOLED AND FLUID PRESSURE OPERATED CLUTCH ASSEMBLY An oil cooled and hydraulically operated clutch assembly in which a clutch (10) is contained within an incapsulating clutch housing (18). An output shaft (20) passes through an aperture in the rear of the housing (18), the forward end of the housing being secured to an engine flywheel (12). Sealing means (52, 84) provide an oil seal between the periphery of the output shaft, the aperture, and a stationary annular member (24) which extends through the aperture and provides various fluid passageways into the housing. An annular piston (56) is disposed within the housing and is caused to be moved between disengaged and engaged positions by hydraulic pressure to engage the clutch. A separate supply of coolant is fed into the housing to cool the clutch, this coolant being scavenged by a scavenging means which includes a pitot-like tube (94).
