PATENT APPLICATION OIL WELL FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM Abstract: The device described herein, employs a "T- shaped" pipe to cover the exposed oil pipe at or near ground level and re- direct the flow of oil away from the flame, thereby starving the flames of fuel. Operation is either by crane or by helicopter. After initial placement over the oil flow, oil will be flowing unimpeded through the vertical pipe section and the fire will still be burning above the device. At this point, a cable with a sphere attached is pulled through the other pipe section at approximately 90 degrees to the oil flow. Eventually, the sphere is pulled up against an annular ring in the neck of the vertical pipe section and closes off the flow of oil in this direction. Oil now flows parallel to the ground and exits the pipe some 15 feet from the flames. The flames die out due to lack of fuel.
