"OIL-WETTING TREATMENT FOR REDUCING WATER CONING IN AN OIL RESERVOIR" An oil well producing water is treated to reduce the water cut by injecting through the well into the reservoir a composite slug comprising: - a relatively small volume of carrier oil containing an oil-wetting agent (typically 0.2 m3 of a viscous mixture of surfactants adapted to render the reservoir matrix oil-wetted and about 15 m3 of light hydrocarbon); and - a relatively large volume of non-condensable gas (typically 50,000 to 200,000 m3. The well is then placed back on production. The oil-wetting agent modifies the reservoir matrix in the near-wellbore region by reducing its relative permeability to water. The gas modifies the matrix further out into the reaches of the reservoir.
