A method of oilsands separation comprising introducing pre-sized oilsands into one end of a vessel; moving the oilsands towards a solids outlet in the vessel while breaking up lumps in the oilsands; compressing solids at the solids outlet by maintaining a head of solids above a restriction in a hopper; introducing steam into the vessel to maintain the temperature of the interior of the vessel such that separation of bitumen from solids takes place, while gas dissolved in the bitumen nucleates and forms entrained gas bubbles within the bitumen that cause flotation of the bitumen; introducing hot water into the vessel and removing middlings from the central zone of the vessel to maintain viscosity of the central zone of the vessel such that bitumen and entrained gases rise through the central zone of the vessel to form a surface layer on the material in the vessel; and skimming floating bitumen with entrained gases from the surface layer.
Procédé pour séparer les sables bitumineux, consistant : à introduire des sables bitumineux précalibrés à une extrémité d'un contenant; à déplacer ces sables dans le contenant vers une sortie pour solides, en désagrégeant les blocs présents; à comprimer les solides à la sortie en maintenant une certaine hauteur de solides au-dessus d'un étranglement dans une trémie; à introduire de la vapeur dans le contenant de façon à maintenir dans ce dernier une température permettant de séparer le bitume des solides, pendant qu'il y a nucléation du gaz dissous dans le bitume, avec formation de bulles de gaz entraînées à l'intérieur du bitume et assurant la flottation de celui-ci; à introduire de l'eau chaude dans le contenant et à éliminer les mixtes de la zone centrale du contenant en maintenant la viscosité de cette zone de telle façon que le bitume et les gaz entraînés montent à travers la zone centrale du contenant pour former une couche superficielle sur le matériau dans le contenant; à écumer le bitume flottant, grâce aux gaz entraînés à partir de la couche superficielle.
