A grafted copolymer of an isomonoolefin and a para-alkylstyrene, e.g., isobutylene and para-methylstyrene, grafted with an unsaturated organic compound, such as a maleic anhydride, the grafted copolymer of less than 24,000 number average molecular weight. Derivatives based on nucleophilic reagents reacted with the grafted copolymer useful in oleaginous compositions such as lubricants and fuels and methods for preparing such derivatives are also provided, as are processes for preparing the grafted copolymer.
