Abstract of the Disclosure A method to dimerize ethylene and propylene to form pentene(s) and hexene(s) is provided. The quantity of each of the reaction products can be controlled by varying the reactant ratio and/or reaction temperature. The catalyst used is an elemental alkali metal supported on an alkali metal carbonate; optional promoters can be used.
