OLEFIN POLYMER VISCOSITY INDEX IMPROVER ADDITIVE USEFUL IN OIL COMPOSITIONS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Olefin polymers are degraded in molecular weight in the presence of a free radical initistor under an inert blanket. The degradation preferably is carried out under high shearing tress and/or a high temperature in order to increase the degradation. The degradation may be separate from, overlap, or occur simultaneously with further derivatization of the polymer.
