ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An olefin polymerization catalyst comprising: a solid catalyst and an organometallic compound, the solid catalyst being obtained by reacting an organomagnesium compound soluble in hydrocarbon solvent and represented by the following formula: MgR1pR2qxr wherein R1 and R2 are identical or different and represent a secondary or tertiary alkyl group having 4 - 6 carbon atoms, X represents a negative group containing O, N or S atom, p and q represent a number of from 0 to 2, r represents a number of from 0 to 1, and p + q + r = 2, with a tetravalent titanium or tetra- or pentavalent vanadium compound having at least one halogen atom. The catalyst is useful for producing a polymer of well defined and desirable properties at high polymerization efficiencies.
