The invention provides a two-step process for converting cyclopentadiene dimer to a high density fuel mixture comprising the steps of: a) reacting the cyclopentadiene dimer in the presence of a solid catalyst comprising a porous crystalline material having a Constraint Index of from about 0.1 to about 12 under oligomerization/isomerization conditions to convert at least a portion of the cyclopentadiene dimer to a normally liquid intermediate product containing cyclopentadiene trimer, cyclopentadiene tetramer, and the isomerized and oligomerized products derived from the reaction of at least three cyclopentadiene monomer units; and b) hydrogenating the normally liquid intermediate product of step a) in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst to form a normally liquid high energy density fuel.

L'invention concerne un procédé en deux étapes permettant de convertir un dimère de ciclopentadiène en mélange carburant de haute densité et consistant à: a) faire réagir le dimère de cyclopentadiène en présence d'un catalyseur solide comprenant un matériau cristallin poreux caractérisé par un indice de contrainte compris entre environ 0,1 et environ 12 dans des conditions d'oligomérisation/isomérisation afin de convertir au moins une partie du dimère cyclopentadiène en produit intermédiaire normalement liquide comprenant un trimère de cyclopentadiène, un tétramère de cyclopentadiène, et les produits isomérisés et oligomérisés dérivés de la réaction d'au moins trois unités de monomère de cyclopentadiène; b) hydrogéner le produit intermédiaire normalement liquide de l'étape (a) en présence d'un catalyseur d'hydrogénation pour former un carburant d'énergie à haute densité normalement liquide.
