Oligomers which inhibit expression of a collagen gene are described. It is believed that each oligomer, when introduced into a cell, forms a transcription-inhibiting complex composed of the oligomer and the collagen- gene promoter region. The oligomer, preferably a phosphorothioate deoxyoligonucleotide or a ribonucleotide, preferably binds in the antiparallel orientation to the polypurine strand of a polypurine-polypyrimidine region of the promoter region of a mammalian .alpha.1(I) collagen gene.
L'invention concerne des oligomères inhibant l'expression d'un gène de collagène. On pense que chaque oligomère, une fois introduit dans une cellule, forme un complexe inhibant la transcription, composé de l'oligomère et de la région promotrice du gène de collagène. Cet oligomère, de préférence un désoxyoligonucléotide de phosphorothioate ou un ribonucléotide, se lie de préférence selon une orientation antiparallèle au brin de polypurine de la région polypurine-polypyrimidine de la région promotrice d'un gène de collagène .alpha.1(I) de mammifère.
