ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Omega-(2',4'-dihalobiphenylyl)-oxo alkanoic acids of the following general formula (I): Image (I) where X1 and X2 are halogen and Y is methylethylene or n- propylene can be prepared by reacting of a 2,4-dihalobiphe- nyl with the anhydride of methylsuccinic or glutaric acid under conditions of Friedel-Crafts acylation. Although similar compounds have been used in the past to treat rheumatoid diseases, the new compounds, incorporating, inter alia, a ditopic halogen substitution show remarkable anti- inflammatory properties with unexpectedly prolonged duration of the effect.
