A viscometer for sensing or characterizing the stress required to shear a fluid at a given rate includes a pair of members coaxially mounted for relative rotation. Between the members is an annular gap defining a flow path for the fluid. The flow path is configured such that during differential rotation of the members, fluid is caused to flow through the annular gap that is a function of the differential rotation and the viscosity of the fluid. A sensor measures the torque or torque equivalent required to achieve such differential rotation between the members.

L'invention concerne un viscosimètre conçu pour détecter ou caractériser la contrainte nécessaire pour cisailler un fluide à un taux donné, qui comporte deux éléments montés coaxialement permettant une rotation relative. Un espace annulaire entre les deux éléments définit une voie d'écoulement pour le fluide. Ladite voie est conçue de façon que, lors de la rotation différentielle des éléments, le fluide s'écoule à travers l'espace annulaire qui est fonction de la rotation différentielle et de la viscosité du fluide. Un capteur mesure le couple ou l'équivalent du couple nécessaire pour réaliser une telle rotation différentielle entre les éléments.
