A fifth wheel travel trailer is constructed with a durable, open, and accessible storage chassis. The chassis functions both as a structural skeletal chassis, mounting directly to a suspension system on a fifth wheel travel trailer, and as a storage center beneath the travel trailer. The living quarters or the travel trailer are mounted directly on the storage chassis. The storage chassis is constructed such that it is accessible from all sides of the travel trailer, and it is open to allow for easy pass-through and routing of travel trailer components. The chassis frame assembly includes a pair of horizontal spaced apart structural beams, a plurality of vertical posts secured to the beams, and another set of structural beams secured to the upper portions of the posts. This construction provides stability and rigidity to the fifth wheel travel trailer while providing increased storage space. The accessibility of the storage space within the chassis eases installation of various components of the vehicle and also aids in post-production serviceability. Thus, production and service costs for a fifth wheel travel trailer are reduced.
