OPEN FRAME TRACTION SYSTEM ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A portable traction system includes an open frame for mounting directly on a bed, treatment table, or the floor. A tension-applying mechanism is mounted on the frame and attached to a cervical tension cord and a pelvic tension cord. The cervical tension cord is threaded to one end of the frame and extends upward on a vertical post, allowing the patient to undergo cervical traction. The pelvic traction cord extends to the opposite end of the frame and is connected to a pelvic traction belt which goes around the patient's waist. The patient wears a counterbelt attached to the first end of the frame, and may use the system to undergo pelvic traction. Use of the system does not require specialized mounting equipment, and may be utilized by simply placing the frame on a bed, treat- ment table, or other surface. 8192-4/PA JMH008
