An improved bottom cord for a truss, comprising, an open joist having top and bottom flanges with open-web construction therebetween, except at the opposite ends thereof where there are solid end blocks therebetween; and dimension lumber joined in the 2x orientation to each of the solid end blocks of the open joist, and extended outwardly from the ends of the open joist in planar relationship with the end blocks, with standard truss heal configurations and connections at the outermost ends thereof.
