2090471 9204234 PCTABS00011 A vacuum packaging apparatus (10) for packaging a product (116) between a plastic film (12) and a backing board (14) includes a base (16) which has a stationary heating hood (18). A packaging table (32) is mounted on the base (16) and offset from the hood (18). A sealing frame (34) is mounted on the base (16) for holding a sheet (12) of wrapping material. First and second elongated (48, 62) arms are pivotally attached to both the base (16) and the frame (34) to connect the frame (34) to the base (16). The arms (48, 62) may be pivoted to move the frame (34) from a sealing position, wherein the frame (34) is positioned adjacent the packaging table (32), to a heating position, wherein the frame (34) is positioned adjacent the heating hood (18) to heat the sheet (12). A vacuum motor (110) is mounted in the base (16) beneath under the packaging table (32). When the sealing frame (34) is lowered to the sealing position to place the heated sheet (12) over the board (14) to seal the heated sheet (12) over the product (116) onto the backing board (14).
