A tool for opening a container sealed by a ring-pull seal is described. The hand-operated tool saves overloading a person's hands by gripping the ring- pull or tab, and manipulating the tab in a first direction so that the seal is broken, and then in a second direction so that the tab is laid flat or perhaps removed. For tabs with a large ring, there is a ring engaging means placed in relation to an adjacent sharp tool edge for pressing against the region of the frangible seal in order to initiate breaking of the seal, and a fulcrum or heel on which the tool can be rocked in order to lift the lid away. For beverage containers with smaller tabs the tab itself breaks the seal after being levered by the hand-operated tool.

La présente invention concerne un outil pour ouvrir une boîte fermée par un couvercle à bague d'arrachage. Cet outil se manoeuvrant à la main simplifie une opération complexe nécessitant, d'abord de saisir l'anneau ou la languette et d'agir dans un premier sens de façon à amorcer la déchirure, puis d'agir dans un deuxième sens de façon à rabattre la languette ou de l'arracher. Pour les languettes à grande bague d'arrachage, l'outil présente, d'une part en relation avec un bord aiguisé adjacent de l'outil, un élément entrant en contact avec la bague et venant agir contre la zone du joint de rupture, de façon à amorcer la déchirure du joint, et d'autre part un point d'appui ou talon sur lequel on peut faire basculer l'outil de façon à dégager le couvercle en le relevant. Pour les boîtes-boisson à petites languettes, c'est la languette elle-même qui rompt le joint après l'action de levier de l'outil manoeuvré à la main.
