ABSTRACT An opening roller for open-end spinning machines is provided. The roller has a cylindrical roller body and a sawtooth wire wound helically onto the cylindrical surface of the body. The wire has a base region that is wider than the teeth. It is wound on the roller body under tension and has its ends fixed to the body. Base regions of adjacent turns are separated by a gap. The ratio of height to width of the base region is less than or equal to 1, preferably between 0.4 and 0.6.
